Council Vests Available

All, council vests are finally available.  10 Brother Knights have made either a full or partial deposit, and should make arrangements with the Financial Secretary, Dale Culuris, to get their vest (and complete their payment, if necessary).  There are also 9 vests of varying sizes available to Brother Knights who did not make a deposit, on a first come, first served basis.  Again, reach out to Dale, to make arrangements to buy one.  The cost is $52, and that reflects the actual cost to the council.  These are attractive blue vests with the emblem of the order embroidered on the back with our council name and number.  They are perfect for any council or parish function.  Knight it up!!

Tootsie Roll Campaign wraps up this weekend after all Masses

This weekend (October 25/26) we will conclude our 2014 Campaign For People With Intellectual Disabilities, better known as the Tootsie Roll Drive.  We will be soliciting donations after all masses at Our Lady of Fatima parish.  Workers are needed to stand outside church and collect the donations and at the same time pass out tootsie rolls.  We could sure use your help.  If you will be at Fatima for mass this weekend, please come out of church after communion and put on one of our yellow/orange tootsie roll vests and grab a collection can and some tootsie rolls.  Only about 10 to 15 minutes of your time will be needed.

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this program.  We will be putting out in the November council newsletter the results of the overall campaign.

Knights Needed to Lead Rosary Before Masses (last weekend of this month)

ros4A reminder that we still have times available for you to lead the congregation in praying the Rosary the last weekend of October.  Many of you will be there helping distribute tootsie rolls, so please consider also helping the Altar and Rosary Society fill this commitment.  Please contact Tom to select a spot;  tom.martinez@cdccoors.com or call 3039617355. We will not pray the Rosary before the Sunday evening Mass because the instrumental group warms up in the church before that Mass. Also, for any of the slots that only have one Knight praying, if you’d like to partner up, that would be great.

Major Degrees available in Northglenn on Oct. 11th

The three degrees provide the basis for Knighthood.  The degrees contain the lessons that teach the meaning and purpose of being a Knight.  Without the completion of the degrees, a Knight will not understand the basic tenants of Knighthood.  Each degree has its own special lesson and the combination of all three degrees provides the Knight with a foundation on which he builds his Knighthood experience.   Like all lessons taught to students, the individual understanding as to how they impact are somewhat unique to the student.  You can join the Knights and take your 1st Degree, but that is like reading only the first part of a three-part book.  You don’t gain the full understanding of what it means to be a Knight unless you complete the major degrees which equates to reading the entire three-part book.  The oath you took in the 1st Degree applies equally to all Knights, no matter what degree you have obtained.

Breakfast is Back!

The world-famous Knights’ Breakfast makes it’s triumphant return to the parish halls on Sept. 21st.  Join Tom, Ken, and the rest of the Fatima Knights as they prepare a tasty and affordable meal, perfect for after Mass.  Whether it’s fellowship, family time, or just delicious pancakes you are after, the monthly Knights’ breakfast has you covered.  Sign up to participate in this classic program is not needed, but if you’d like to, sign-up here.

Reminder: Council Business Meeting This Tuesday!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 9th is our regularly scheduled business meeting.  As always, there will be lots of information, and lots of opportunity to bring your ideas and energy to share with the council.  I’m hoping we can approve the list of seminarians we will be supporting with our peach funds, some announcements about communication, as well as other important council business.  Rosary at 7 pm, immediately followed by the meeting.  I look forward to seeing as many brother Knights as we can get!

Are You Ready for some Football (Frenzy)?

It’s football season again, and for the Knights in Colorado, that means Football Frenzy!  Football Frenzy is a sweepstake program operated by the state charities corporation.  Knights are asked to sell tickets that list 4 NFL teams for each of the last 10 weeks of the season.  Tickets that have 4 high-scoring teams, or 4 low-scoring teams, can win cash prizes.  $1000 in cash prizes are awarded each week.  There is also a discount card on every ticket.  Lots of details, and lists of weekly winners are available at http://www.coloradokofc.org.  Ticket sales need to be complete by the end of September.  Last season, Brother Knight Tom Martinez sold a week 1 winner to a co-worker; who will sell (or buy) a winner this year?  Contact Michael Majeres at kofc9597@gmail.com to get tickets today!  Please put “Football” in the subject line.

Tootsie Roll Time

Each fall, the Knights of Columbus conduct one of their most popular and successful programs, known as the “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities”. As the name entails, this program benefits people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Knights stand outside local businesses and solicit funds from the public. In appreciation, the donor is offered a “Tootsie Roll”. The high visibility of this program has led to the campaign being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive” even though there is no official connection with the candy manufacturer.

Here at Our Lady of Fatima, the Knights of Columbus are in the process of performing a very successful 2014 campaign. Starting the first weekend in September and running through the middle of October, the Knights will be soliciting contributions in front of three different King Soopers stores in the Lakewood area. They will conclude the 2014 campaign by standing outside the Fatima church in late October and asking for donations at the conclusion of all masses. If you would like to contribute to this important drive, you may make a cash donation or write a check addressed to “K of C – 9597”. The Knights will accept any and all donations – small and large as they all add up to help the handicapped. Remember: this program is to help the handicapped and we encourage everyone – young, middle aged and seniors to participate. This is an excellent opportunity for children to experience the “helping hand” of a Catholic by giving to those less fortunate!
