All members of our council, along with their families, are invited to the council picnic, this Friday, Sept. 18th. We’ll have hot dogs and hamburgers as well as some soft drinks. Please bring a side dish to share, and any “adult beverages” you’ll want. we forgot to plan one last year, so let’s make sure to have a great evening on fun and fellowship this year. Please RSVP to either Brother Knight Lou Schornack, or Rich Phillips, so we can insure we have enough food.
See you there!
Brothers, our annual Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities, otherwise known as the “Tootsie Roll” drive has started. As we have done in the past, we’ll cover volunteer shifts in front of area King Soopers stores, handing out free tootsie rolls, and asking for donations to assist those in our community. We have new aprons that we received last year, and new cans to collect donations in. In order to reduce the effort needed to manage the volunteers, the council will be using “Sign-Up Genius”, an online service to allow members to choose a shift that works for them and their family’s schedules. You should have received an invitation via email already, but in case you haven’t you can use this link. You may need to create an account with them when you get there. Contact the Grand Knight is you have any issues or email firstname.lastname@example.org
On the same topic, I’ll share with you a poem that Dave Schneider shared with the council via email…
Just a reminder that our regularly scheduled social meeting will be in the Knights room at 7 pm tomorrow night. Before the social meeting we will also be having a 1st degree exemplification at 6 pm. We have a candidate for our council, and one candidate from 4796. I hope to see many of you there!.
It’s time for Football, which means it’s time to buy your Football Crazr (formerly known as Football Frenzy) tickets to this year’s season. No excuses. No, “I haven’t won before”! Many winners have lost as much if not more than you, and the proceeds go to Knights’ Charities. And, if our Council sells more 50 or more tickets we receive $2 per ticket back.
So, what is different between Football Crazr and Football Frenzy? The new Football Crazr also includes discounts that you have access to using your ticket stub in addition to the weekly prize payouts:
Highest combined 4 team score: $400
2nd Highest: $200
3rd Highest: $100
4th Highest: $80
5th Highest: $60
6th Highest: $40
7th Highest: $20
Lowest combined 4 team score: $60
2nd Lowest: $40
So, you have 9 chances to win, time ten weeks, or 90 chances! Plus the discounts and support of Knights’ Charities.
Okay, our Council 9597 is offering one more incentive, be one of the first 16 men to purchase/sell 5 or more tickets and you get a free team in our Council’s Football Crazr Fantasy League with a 1st place payout of $50, 2nd place of $35 and 3rd place of $15 (the prize money is donated so it’s not coming out of money back from ticket sales). And… the draft party will be at the Klispie home where you will be well fed and supplied with a decent selection of beer and sodas. Draft party will be either on Saturday, August 29th or Saturday September 5th at 5PM depending on schedules for those in the league.
Be ready to get your tickets! Contact Ken Klispie at email@example.com or by phone 720-341-2543 to reserve you spot today.
Reminder to anyone who bought peaches from Council 9597 to support Catholic seminarians…it’s time to come get your delicious Palisade peaches! We will be distributing from 8 am until Noon in the OLF parking lot. For your safety, and ours, please follow the posted signage.
Brother Knights (and gentlemen considering joining our order), we have nearly 500 boxes of peaches to hand out between 8-Noon on Saturday, August 8th. If you have any availability during that time, please drop by and pitch in!
Brothers, some of you may have already heard, but our brother Phil Ward lost his beloved wife, Glenda, late last week. Glenda and Phil have been long time fixtures at OLF, and she will be greatly missed by all of us.
Knights are encouraged to show their support to brother Phil and the Ward family during this difficult time by attending the funeral (and as appropriate) wearing their blue council vests. The funeral Mass will be this Thursday (July 23rd) at 10:30 am at OLF. I hope to see many of you there.
This coming weekend, July 11/12 we will again be selling Palisade peaches outside Fatima before & after all masses.
We will need help with the sales and that is the reason for this message. Some of the brother Knights who would normally be at church helping with the sales will be attending the State Organization Meeting and thus won’t be available to man the sales table.
We will be selling peaches at following masses:
5:00 pm, Saturday
7:00 am, Sunday
8:30 am, Sunday
10:00 am, Sunday
11:30 am, Sunday
5:00 pm, Sunday
If you can help out at one or more of the masses, just show up ready to work. It’s more “mental” than “physical”, so don’t worry if you just had surgery on your big toe!!!
I especially need help at the 5:00 pm Sunday evening mass, so please check your schedule and see if that time slot will work for you.
If you have any questions, please let me know!

Our Lady of Fatima Knights of Columbus, Council 9597
On Sunday, June 14th, our council lost one of its charter members as Brother Knight Andy Bryce passed to his eternal reward. He was 90 years young. As our council noted in a resolution passed the week before, “Council 9597 is proud to recognize Brother Knight Andy Bryce for a long history of efforts to move our council forward. 3rd Degree Knight Andy Bryce has provided the council invaluable service over the history of the council, being one of the charter members of our council, as well as a member of the Knights since 1958. His brothers of Council 9597 wish to ensure that he knows of our high regard, respect, and that it is a blessing that he is a member of our council and parish. Andy lives out the order’s principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity as he has served as an outstanding model of Knighthood and is most worthy of our high esteem and regard.” Andy was one of the forward-looking men who formed our council, after almost 20 years as a knight in other councils. He served his country honorably in both the Navy and the Army, as well as a distinguished career as a chief surveyor. The Bryce family remains a fixture at our parish, and his widow, Olga, is in our prayers. Continue reading
The end of this month will be very busy.
On Tuesday, June 23rd, we will be holding a 1st degree exemplification with 2 candidates. We are planning on starting that at 6 pm. Immediately following that, we will move upstairs for our monthly social meeting, during which we will be installing the newly elected officers or the 2015-16 fraternal year. While they cannot attend the exemplification, families are welcome, even encouraged, to attend the social meeting and officer installation. Snacks will be provided.
Then on Saturday, June 27th, we will be kicking off our annual “Peaches For Seminarians” campaign after the 5 pm Mass. Immediately following that, we will be helping the parish celebrate at its annual picnic. Knights will be needed to man the grill, as well as pour drinks. Contact Brother Woody Ritchie if you can help with that.
Finally, please remember to pray for Brother Andy Bryce who is very ill
