In Remembrence of Glenda Ward, wife of Brother Phil Ward

Brothers, some of you may have already heard, but our brother Phil Ward lost his beloved wife, Glenda, late last week. Glenda and Phil have been long time fixtures at OLF, and she will be greatly missed by all of us.

Knights are encouraged to show their support to brother Phil and the Ward family during this difficult time by attending the funeral (and as appropriate) wearing their blue council vests. The funeral Mass will be this Thursday (July 23rd) at 10:30 am at OLF. I hope to see many of you there.

Peach Sales – Help Needed

This coming weekend, July 11/12 we will again be selling Palisade peaches outside Fatima before & after all masses.

We will need help with the sales and that is the reason for this message. Some of the brother Knights who would normally be at church helping with the sales will be attending the State Organization Meeting and thus won’t be available to man the sales table.

We will be selling peaches at following masses:

5:00 pm, Saturday
7:00 am, Sunday
8:30 am, Sunday
10:00 am, Sunday
11:30 am, Sunday
5:00 pm, Sunday

If you can help out at one or more of the masses, just show up ready to work. It’s more “mental” than “physical”, so don’t worry if you just had surgery on your big toe!!!

I especially need help at the 5:00 pm Sunday evening mass, so please check your schedule and see if that time slot will work for you.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Council 9597 Mournes the Loss of Andy Bryce

BryceOn Sunday, June 14th, our council lost one of its charter members as Brother Knight Andy Bryce passed to his eternal reward.  He was 90 years young.  As our council noted in a resolution passed the week before, “Council 9597 is proud to recognize Brother Knight Andy Bryce for a long history of efforts to move our council forward.  3rd Degree Knight Andy Bryce has provided the council invaluable service over the history of the council, being one of the charter members of our council, as well as a member of the Knights since 1958.  His brothers of Council 9597 wish to ensure that he knows of our high regard, respect, and that it is a blessing that he is a member of our council and parish.  Andy lives out the order’s principles of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity as he has served as an outstanding model of Knighthood and is most worthy of our high esteem and regard.”  Andy was one of the forward-looking men who formed our council, after almost 20 years as a knight in other councils.  He served his country honorably in both the Navy and the Army, as well as a distinguished career as a chief surveyor.  The Bryce family remains a fixture at our parish, and his widow, Olga, is in our prayers. June announcements

The end of this month will be very busy.

On Tuesday, June 23rd, we will be holding a 1st degree exemplification with 2 candidates. We are planning on starting that at 6 pm. Immediately following that, we will move upstairs for our monthly social meeting, during which we will be installing the newly elected officers or the 2015-16 fraternal year. While they cannot attend the exemplification, families are welcome, even encouraged, to attend the social meeting and officer installation. Snacks will be provided.

Then on Saturday, June 27th, we will be kicking off our annual “Peaches For Seminarians” campaign after the 5 pm Mass. Immediately following that, we will be helping the parish celebrate at its annual picnic. Knights will be needed to man the grill, as well as pour drinks. Contact Brother Woody Ritchie if you can help with that.

Finally, please remember to pray for Brother Andy Bryce who is very ill

Congratulations and Thank You for Another Great Beer Pairing Dinner!

Brothers and Friends, we hosted another amazing Beer Pairing Dinner last night, April 11th.  I want to congratulate you all on working together to create another exciting event to raise money to place an ultrasound machine in a crisis pregnancy center.  I don’t have financial results yet, but I can report that our efforts are touching hearts (and pocketbooks) in our parish.  Thanks to all who were are to volunteer at the event, and those who helped in a variety of other ways.  Brother Stan and brother Dale took a bunch of photos which I will share after the break…  Thanks again, and Vivat Jesus!  Cheers! To Life!!

Beer Pairing Dinner Updates

As you know we will be hosting our annual Beer Pairing Dinner on April 11th at Our Lady of Fatima for the benefit of the Knights statewide ultra sound program. Due to the success of last year’s event and the demand generated thus far, we have significantly expanded the event. Based on the anticipated number of attendees, our venue has had to be moved from the parish center to the school gymnasium. With the increase in the number of attendees, the need for participation and support by the council members is even more critical and I would ask each of you to consider lending your time and talents to the effort in guaranteeing the event’s success.

No offer of support is too small and there are many ways in which you can support the event. Brother Brent Schuller is coordinating the volunteers for the 2015 event and he has many opportunities available across a number of positions where we could use your help. To that end, I would ask each of you to personally reach out to Brent and offer your support and assistance in whatever way you can.

We will again be selling tickets after all the masses for the Beer Pairing Dinner this weekend and we are looking for volunteers to man the ticket table. The weather should be much more mild than this past weekend, so we have that going for us.

As you will see in the flyer insert in the bulletin for the event, we have expanded the event now to accommodate up to 200 folks. We sold 80 tickets in our first weekend and counting this coming weekend, we have four weekends left before we cease ticket sales at the end of March. Please reach out to friends and family to attend this wonderful charity event to make it a huge success.

My thanks in advance for all you do to make Council 9597 such a meaningful part of our parish community and for your support of this very important event in support of the church’s pro-life ministry.
Also please let me know if you will be able to assist with manning the ticket sales this weekend as well.

Beer Pairing Dinner Ticket Sales

We begin selling tickets today after the 5pm mass. Brothers Phillips, Klispie and Martinez will be covering sales this evening. I will be covering sales after the 7:30, 8:30 and 10am masses tomorrow and wanted to ask if any Knights would be available to cover sales after the 11:30 and 5pm masses tomorrow.  We will also need knights to cover after Mass shifts other weekends in March

Please let me know if you are able  (woody@tritchey.com) and I will coordinate delivering the ticket packet to you. Many thanks.

In Christ

Woody

Call for State Convention Delegates

As a reminder, the state convention is quickly approaching.  Our council should send 2 voting delegates.  As Grand Knight, Michael Majeres will be the first delegate.

The by-laws of our Order provide for the representation of delegates from councils in good standing to our State Convention. Specifically, the referenced by-law’ is as follows

Chapter II Sec. 12(a) – State Councils shall consist of the Grand Knight and a Past Grand Knight, actually residing in the state or jurisdiction, from each subordinate council in good standing…………… If there be more than one Past Grand Knight, the council shall elect the one to represent it in the State Convention. A council having no past Grand Knight may elect any of its Third Degree members in good standing in lieu thereof as a representative of said council in the State Council. Each subordinate council shall elect alternates for representatives in the State Council.

If there is a Past Grand Knight who wishes to attend, they should let the Grand Knight (KofC9597.gk@gmail.com) know before March 8th.  3rd Degree Knights should also inform the Grand Knight if they wish to be considered as alternates, in case no PGK is available.  If there are multiple candidates, we will schedule a special meeting on March 12th to elect delegates.

Two Important Scheduling Notes

Brother Knights, I have two updates to schedules to share with you tonight.

Most urgently, Brother Pete Zuniga called me this evening and asked to reschedule the essay scoring session on Feb. 21st.  Given the weather concerns we all have for the coming snow storm, I agreed with him that we should push the essay grading out a week,  So NO gathering tomorrow morning to judge essays.

Less urgently, but just as important, I want to remind everyone that the March business meeting has been moved from March 10th (second Tuesday) to March 24th (fourth Tuesday) in order to accommodate the parish mission which will run March 9th-11th.  The opportunities for spiritual growth and participation in parish life are more important than keeping our normal schedule.  So, March Business meeting is March 24th.

Thanks for all you do for our council and our parish.  Vivat Jesus!
